2016 Ironman 70.3 Route Announced!

2016 Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire route announced

The countdown to IRONMAN 70.3 in Staffordshire is on, with the announcement of the official route to be taken by athletes.

The competition takes place on Sunday June 12, and will involve some diversions and road closures for the safety of athletes and members of the public.

Two sections of the race—the bike and running courses—will take place on the roads. To help motorists plan their route, event organisers IRONMAN UK, have released a map showing locations and times of all road closures.

Those travelling through the county are being advised to check beforehand and plan their journeys to avoid delays. Essential access for carers can be facilitated by contacting [email protected]

Once again, the event will see competitors complete a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile half marathon, starting at Chasewater, passing through Cannock Chase before culminating at the historic Shugborough Estate.

Last year chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana, and world champion Javier Gomez joined more than 2,000 people taking part in the competition in Staffordshire.

Staffordshire County Councillor Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Transport said: “The first Staffordshire Ironman 70.3 was a huge success story from start to finish and was a great opportunity to really showcase what a fantastic county Staffordshire is to live, work and visit.

“We know from last year that Ironman 70.3 will be well supported, but there will also be some minor disruption to travel in some areas, especially as there are other big events taking place on the same day. We’d advise people to check out the maps at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/ironman or at www.ironman.com and plan their journeys to avoid any potential delays.”
